Niels Engel

ENGLBRT is much more than just a musical duo. It is the creative union of Niels Engel and Georges Goerens, two passionate artists whose collaboration has given birth to a captivating indietronica project. Since its genesis during an artistic residency at the Kulturfabrik in Esch-sur-Alzette in 2021, ENGLBRT has charted its course through a series of concerts and the release of their debut EP "Odes to everything".

For Niels Engel, the idea of forming this duo was born out of a deep desire to bring his musical ideas to life alongside a creative partner. He remembers: "I've always had the idea of giving shape to my musical ideas in the form of a constellation of two musicians." This vision found its echo during a recording session with Jérôme Klein, where the chance encounter with Georges triggered a series of clicks, both on a human and musical level.

Currently, the ENGLBRT project is in an active development phase. Niels and Georges are working on their first album, a work that is still being built in the studio. Furthermore, an immersive live experience is being developed, promising a unique fusion of "surround 4.0" sound and a spectacular light installation, scheduled to premiere at the Cultural Center Rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster in 2025.

However, the path to realizing their vision has not been without obstacles.
Niels shares: "We encountered quite a few technical problems in building our musical setups, connecting them, and synchronizing them". However, these challenges have been overcome with perseverance and determination, demonstrating the team's commitment to their common vision.

One of the most memorable moments of their journey so far occurred during the USINA festival in 2023. The fortuitous presence of one of Belgium's most influential bookers, Peter Verstraelen, marked a significant turning point for the duo. Niels remembers with emotion: "He got in touch with us a few days after the festival and ever since then, we have been working with his agency."

However, despite these successes, Niels does not consider the ENGLBRT project to be completed. For him, music is an endless journey, a constant quest for artistic evolution and creativity.

Long-term, Niels and Georges' goal is to reach the audience with their music and continue this adventure for as long as their passion carries them. "I hope that the music will touch as many souls as possible, " Niels shares, "and that composing music within this band will fill my heart and that of my whole team for as long as possible."

Thus, ENGLBRT continues its musical journey, guided by passion, inspiration, and the desire to explore new sonic horizons. As Niels says, "There's never a good time to create, it took me almost 15 years to start my first project of my own, and it still feels like the right time to do it."
