The project

Every week, the therapeutic workshop of "Schweesdrëps" receives, inventories, washes, repackages, and delivers over 4700 sports outfits to 40 sports clubs in the south of the Grand Duchy. This workshop provides employment for 40 people in professional reintegration.

The implementation

By analyzing the workshop's operations, we have identified activities that require handling heavy loads, such as transporting bags of clothes or basins of laundry. In order to improve working conditions in the therapeutic workshop for people reintegrating into the workforce, we have acquired 20 shelving carts. This allowed us to almost completely reduce the transportation of heavy loads by employees, thus preserving their health while increasing their efficiency. Not only do we see a lot fewer absences due to illness, but the shelf carts and 10 other folding carts have also helped us optimize our workflow system. Cherry on top, we will now be able to use shopping carts in our new Caddy 2 building in Sanem in 2022.

We want to do everything we can to support disadvantaged people and help them get back into a good work routine, feel useful, and exist in the eyes of society.

Impact of the pandemic

The interruption of sports championships due to the pandemic has greatly reduced the activity of the workshop and, consequently, the income from this activity. But at the same time, a new need has emerged: in order to be able to distribute masks in social services that accommodate disadvantaged people, Stëmm vun der Strooss took care of the initial washing of these masks. In addition to this service, we also receive donations of clothing for the "Kleederstuffs", and our teams sort and wash the clothes before sending them to the Kleederstuffs in Esch and Hollerich.

Objective

Promoting the professional integration of people in difficulty and thus providing employment for around 90 people was and remains our greatest motivation. The new carts will retain all their usefulness during our next move to our new building, as they will allow us to create more space in our workshop to promote social distancing, limit the carrying of heavy loads, and above all, improve working conditions and employee well-being in their workplace.

We will continue to do everything in our power to support disadvantaged people, help them regain a work rhythm, with the goal of making them feel useful and appreciated by society again.
