The Project

The idea began as a joke in November 2020. A friend asked me a question about sustainability, which I answered with a voice message. She shared the message with her housemates, who were very interested in the topic. This inspired the idea of a Q&A service for their shared house—a kind of prototype podcast based on voice messages.

After a while, we created a Signal group that grew to include more and more interested people asking questions, which I answered through voice messages.

This small project evolved into my thesis project for my graduate studies, which became the first season of the podcast. The second season, which has just concluded, was supported by Œuvre Nationale.

Execution

Podcast production is a highly diverse activity. The process involves many different stages, each with specific interconnected tasks. I enjoy the variety this brings.

However, it is mostly solitary work. While I collaborate with someone for editing, much of my time is spent alone researching, writing, and recording. I’ve embraced this reality, but if a third season happens, I’d like to share a workspace with others to feel less isolated.

What’s most important to me is to talk about climate in a different way. The positive feedback I’ve received motivates me to continue. I’m glad to see the podcast growing in popularity and even happier when strangers tell me they find it entertaining and informative.

Language shapes thought. The way we talk about something impacts how we think and, ultimately, how we act.

Through this podcast, I’ve learned that if you have a project idea you truly believe in, you can make it happen—even without prior experience in the field. For this project, I ventured into podcast production independently and learned a great deal along the way. You shouldn’t let uncertainty stop you when you’re passionate about bringing a project to life.

Objective

The climate crisis is a complex issue with interconnected factors. Understanding it requires looking at the specifics and the bigger picture simultaneously. That said, the climate crisis is real, and we must act. There is still time and many ways to avoid the worst, but we must radically change our lifestyles.

That’s why I want to show that it’s possible to discuss the climate crisis in an engaging, research-based manner. While the crisis is deeply threatening, we can talk about it in ways that are motivating and encouraging. My goal is to apply my knowledge of climate communication to a medium that remains accessible over time.

Once produced, a podcast can stay online indefinitely. I hope that over the months and years, many people will listen to the episodes and develop a deeper awareness of the climate crisis, environmental protection, and sustainability in general.
